The Importance Of Everything In Moderation
When it comes to your health, the age old saying “everything in moderation”, could not be more accurate. Whether it’s the food you eat, how often you exercise or how much sleep you get, ensuring you get enough (as well as not too much!) will result in a happier, healthier you. Some key areas where moderation is important include:
Perhaps the most obvious one but also where we often have the worst habits, the food we eat has a huge impact on our health and fitness. Rather than dieting or restricting yourself only to binge later, figure out what you can have a little of and what you can have a lot of. Many people go by the rule of 80/20, which includes sticking to a healthy meal plan 80% of the time, and indulging that little bit 20% of the time.
While exercising regularly is important, do it too much and you can quickly burn out. Believe it or not, pushing yourself past your limit can sometimes be harmful and rest days are just as important as getting your daily exercise. If you are injured or sick, don’t make it worse by exercising through it. Instead, allow yourself to take a break and relax.
How much and how well you sleep can greatly affect your health. It can contribute to your energy levels, weight loss or gain and emotions. It’s important to also have a relatively regular sleep cycle, heading to bed and waking up at similar times. You don’t want oversleep too often either, as this can also have negative health effects. As a general rule, an adult should be getting between 7 and 9 hours of sleep every night.
Work life balance
Your job pays the bills. It may even be one of your favourite places to be! But it shouldn’t take over from your life outside of the office. Spending time with friends and family is also important. As with all things, a good balance is essential. Take the time to switch off from work whilst you’re at home by ensuring you complete what you need to do while in the office or at the worksite. Ensuring both your work and social life are well-balanced will also ensure you are healthier inside and out!
