Describe your life before you started your health and fitness journey?
I had no direction, motivation or confidence. I had no self-esteem, partied all the time, drank too much and ate terribly. I was just floating through life and not really getting anywhere.
Why did you decide to make a change?
I woke up one day and realized I couldn’t keep going the way I was. I hated what I saw in the mirror and that broke my heart. I wanted to start a family, travel and get married, but to do that I knew I had to change the way I was living.
What’s changed since you started focusing on health and fitness?
It’s as though I live a completely different life! I never, ever thought that I would stick to eating healthy and being active. Now I’ve completed my Cert IV in Fitness and become a personal trainer at Jetts! I love who I am now and it seems that everything in my life is getting better and better.
Do you remember your first training session?
My first gym session was late at night because I was so embarrassed. My first group training session was really fun, but I was the most unfit, most overweight and slowest person in the group. I was so nervous but afterwards on was on a massive high. I absolutely loved it!
What’s your training schedule like?
I hit the gym 6 days a week and try to mix my training up as much as possible. I try to get in some cardio before my weights session every morning, or I’ll come back and do a separate weights session in the afternoon.
What is the number one lesson you’ve learnt about health and fitness?
Even when I don’t feel like it, I still show up. I know it’s a process and results wont happen over night. When I skip out on a session I always feel guilty, but I never regret going to a session!
What was the biggest obstacle you’ve faced during your health and fitness journey?
Keeping a positive attitude and body image would definitely be one of my biggest obstacles. Some days I just wanted to give up and go back to my old ways. After many talks with the club manager at Jetts about ways I could keep positive, I started reading positive affirmations every day and it worked wonders!
What would you say to anyone struggling stay motivated?
Stick at it! Find ways to make it fun and exciting! Think back to when you first started and how much you were wishing to be exactly where you are now, now imagine where you’ll be six months from now if you stick with it! You won’t even remember how you feel right now, because you’ll end up feeling amazing.
