Hayden and Travis
Every month we are inundated with amazing stories of members who are pushing the limits. Hayden Taylor was born without his right hand, but with the support of his brother Travis, he hasn’t let anything get in his way! Check out Hayden and Travis’s story below.
Can you tell us about yourself?
H: My name is Hayden, I’m 22 years old and I was born without my right hand but that hasn’t stopped me from doing anything I want to do!
T: My name is Travis, I’m 19 and I train at Jetts Dapto with my brother Hayden.
Why did you decide to start working out?
H: I was starting to get self-conscious with how uneven my body was looking.
T: I really wanted to increase my fitness for sports.
What results have you achieved since being a member at Jetts?
H: I’ve learnt how to use a prosthetic arm. I’ve put on weight and muscle, which has made my body a lot closer to being even, I am now happy with the way I look.
T: I have consistently improved my personal bests with weight lifting whilst maintain a healthy body weight.
Why Jetts? What do you love about your local club?
H: I get to train with my brother. It’s only down the road from home and is open 24 hours. The staff and other members of the club are very friendly and treat me the same as an able bodied person.
T: The team are friendly, the other members are approachable and it’s a really comfortable environment to be in.
How many times do you hit the gym per week? What type of training do you do?
H: I hit the gym 5 times a week for weight training.
T: I hit the gym with Hayden about 5 times a week.
Who is your motivation?
H: My brother Travis.
T: My brother.
What do you think has been the key to your success so far?
H: The encouragement my brother gives me each time I’m at the gym. He helps me prove to everyone that I’m no different to them.
T: Setting goals and having the determination to reach them has definitely been the key to my success.
What exercise do you think has helped you out the most/what’s your favourite?
H: Dumbbell bench press has helped me to build both sides of my chest evenly.
T: I would say seated rows are my favourite exercise.
What’s your plan of attack now?
H: To continue to challenge myself each time I step into the gym.
T: To keep my determined attitude and remain focused on my goals.
What keeps you motivated on those days when you just can’t be bothered getting out of bed?
H: I focus on how much work I’ve already put in to get me where I am today.
T: I focus on the feeling you get after a working when all the endorphins are pumping around your body.
What is the best advice you have ever received?
H: The only disability in life is a bad attitude. You can achieve anything you want in live as long as you have the right attitude and set yourself goals.
T: Life begins at the end of your comfort zone.
What advice can you give to others that want to change their life?
H: Set small goals for to achieve, find a buddy who also wants to improve their life and encourage each other to keep going.
T: Consistency is the key. If you stick to something you will see results!
