Tell us about yourself:
When I was 21 I moved out of home and began living an unhealthy life, I was overweight, always drinking and just eating whatever I liked. I got to 106.8kgs and wasn't happy with my weight and decided to do something about it. I joined Jetts Miranda at the start of 2011 and it changed my life. With the help of my PT, Joel, I've shed 32kgs so far.
Why Jetts, what do you love about your local club?
At the start, it was convenience as I lived just down the road and it was a 24/7 gym. But now it's because of the support I get. The team at Jetts Miranda are amazing. I've met so many great people who I love to train with and who are always up for a challenge. I love our Jetts Miranda family!
How many times do you hit the gym per week? What type of training do you do?
I'm at the gym 6 days a week. I train myself Monday-Friday and on Saturday mornings, I do a PT session with Joel. I do 1.5hrs of cardio a day during the week and then I do half hour of floor work with the weights including sit ups, push ups and crunches. In our PT sessions, I do everything from squats, push-ups, lunges, pull-ups, weights as well as some running.
What was your turning point/what prompted your desire to change your life?
One day I was looking in the mirror and I realized I needed to do something about my weight and stop pretending like I was happy with the way I looked.
What results have you achieved since being a member at Jetts?
Amazing results! I'm 32kgs down and have cracked under my goal weight. I love my gym days and I love my sessions with Joel - he pushes me to my limits!
What do you think has been the key to your success so far?
The support I get from my trainer. Everyday Joel will ask how I am, how my day went, how my eating is. During my workouts he asks how I’m going and always gives me motivation to push my limits that little more.
What’s your plan of attack now?
I smash out the treadmill or the bike for at least half an hour each. Then I test myself of the rower for 10 intervals of 500m each. I move to the floor and do my abs workout and floor weights. Oh, and I make sure I do the Accelerate challenge every month!
What keeps you motivated…you know on those days when you just can’t be bothered getting out of bed?
I go to the gym straight from work, so I'm still in the right headspace for exercise. Even when I’m tired I know that once I walk into the gym, the energy and vibe will put me in the right mood to smash it out!
What is the best advice you have ever received?
One day when I was struggling on the rower and thought I was failing. I got asked if I had a target and when I said no, my trainer asked, "If you don't have a target, how can you fail? Keep strong." it's stuck with me since that day.
What advice can you give to others that want to change their life?
That it's possible! Pain is just temporary. And your end goal is achievable!
