Jetts invite community to run wild for animals in need
Jetts Fitness and Australia Zoo are putting paws to the pavement to raise money for sick animals at the Jetts Zoo Run. The charity event, which will see hundreds of participants stampede past animal exhibits in Australia Zoo on October 27, will be the first fun run through a zoo in Queensland.
Sponsored by Jetts Fitness Coolum and Jetts Fitness Peregian Springs, the fundraiser was thought up by 13 year-old Tegan Lather who is on a mission to raise $100,000 for the Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital. Since September 2011 she has raised over $45,000.
Jetts Coolum and Peregian Springs club owner Jill Bingham said it’s been a privilege getting Jetts members and the wider community involved to help Tegan turn her dream into reality.
“The wildlife hospital does so much for sick animals, and we’ve all been working very hard on the Jetts Zoo Run to raise funds and awareness so they can continue.
“We’ve got over 260 runners signed up already which is fantastic. If we reach our limit of 500 registrations we’ll be able to donate $20,000!”
The event will go from 7:00am – 9:00am on Sunday, October 27. Registration fees range from $30 - $50 per person and participants can choose to run or jog on a 2km or 5km course. All participants will receive a goodie bag, t-shirt and water bottle and have the chance to win prizes on the day.
All proceeds will be donated to The Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital - the largest in the country - to help provide veterinary care for thousands of native Australian wildlife.
